Finally - an entry in the caption competition, which as the only entry, must the winner. If only there was a prize!

John, of the Collective Dreamers, offered: "This boy Doyle could be big in Ireland."

Congrats to the lucky winner...

After all this time, as picture of Tech Eagle in action appears! This is no. 1 in an occasional series of captions competitions. Entries to mailto:corvid_consulting@yahoo.co.uk  Surely someone can produce something a bit more mature than this!

Mar08: Has returned from his absence a stronger horse, although a bit inclined to lash out at anything or anyone he deems too close to his person. The tendon scan results have been fine, and Tech Eagle will be cantering soon, hopefully en route to justifying Tom Doyle's bright prediction for his chasing career.

Aug07: Will not be back in training until the new year. His injury is healing well, but the wise course of action is to not rush him back for this autumn, but wait until the spring.

Sep06: Has had an operation on the injured tendon, which went very well. He has already progressed to being led out, and the vet is giving positive vibes about the future. Although webmaster had listed him as a gelding before in error, he is now, just in case the vet reads this and is wondering what it was that was actually removed (as this is not Thursday-Fourball).

Jul06: With two wins under his belt, the plan was the big summer handicap hurdle at Market Rasen, but Tech Eagle picked up a knock in his warm up race at the same venue and is on the easy list until the bruising subsides and we can certain that there is no additional damage.

Apr06: After being beaten by a nasal hair at Huntingdon and encountering Wellbeing at Newbury (who won afterwards at Aintree from an 18 pounds higher mark!), Tech Eagle finally got his time in the spotlight with a neat, late delivery from Tom at Fontwell. There was joyousness all round, not least because Tech Eagle faced a very real threat of being balloted out when the entries were published, and the following observations were made:

David Ashforth (Racing Post) enthusing on small jumps meetings: "Multi-millionaire owner Trevor Hemmings beaten by the Tech Eagle Partnership...It's heart warming when Tech Eagle wins the opening maiden hurdle for Roger Curtis because he hasn't had a winner for a while, and he's a nice man."

Tom Doyle: He'll be even better as a chaser. (As many times and too as many people as is necessary to keep it in mind for the Autumn)

Roger Curtis: "This is the start of his season and Tom thinks he will make a good chaser, which is not good news for the horse as he is still an entire!"

Tech Eagle: So for me, Tommy, ze nadgers are over!

(Been waiting a long time for a stupid Teutonic joke/cliché.)

Tech Eagle then followed up at the end of the month, in what looked a stronger race. Tom was thrilled with his turn of foot and attitude and the logical target is the valuable handicap hurdle run at Market Rasen in July.

Mar06: A game third at Newbury, handling fast ground, had Tom Doyle enthusing about Tech Eagle's prospects as a chaser.

Jan06: On his handicap debut Tech Eagle suffered a defeat of such a tiny margin that even the Microsoft Thesaurus has insufficient words to describe it: Agonising. Minimal. Whisker. Frustrating. Kick-the-cat. Maddening. Exasperating. 1/1000th of a second. Inch and a half. Thawed.* On the upside, it was a winning performance in all but name, and augurs well.

* Don't blame me, it's a Microsoft synonym for kick-the-cat.

Dec05: Tech Eagle started in the UK with a very acceptable second at Taunton, despite being hampered by weakening rivals late on. The follow-up run was not so good, as he shaped as if 2m 1f was stretching his stamina - the exact opposite to the Taunton verdict. As the second race was bizarrely strong (a winner of a prestigious US Group 1 race running at Plumpton!) maybe it was the quality of the opposition that caught him out.

Oct05: This horse has been about to join the yard for some time, but every time a good price had been negotiated, his previous connections ran him and he improved enough for a rethink. In recent weeks he has won a grade III handicap in Germany and been beaten a short head in a grade II handicap there.

A winner at 3 in his native land, he also bagged a brace at four, and has two from six this year. In the course of his career he has shown the speed to win at seven furlongs and the stamina to show he can cut the mustard as a flat and hurdles runner in the UK.

Despite the fact that his sire is almost unknown over here, Tech Eagle is extremely well bred, as Eagle Eyed is a FULL BROTHER TO DANEHILL! Danehill has been a European Champion as both a sprinter and a sire, producing such illustrious offspring as Rock Of Gibralter (a World Champion), Danehill Dancer (Champion 2 year old and a top sire in his own right), Mozart (European Champion sprinter and miler) and Danetime (Champion First Season Sire). Danehill's last set of yearlings averaged 235,000gns, with a peak at £1.2 million.
