Mancebo manages to squeeze in a quick nap between waking up and breakfast, as all right thinking people do
Jul08: Mancebo has been raised nineteen pounds for his second at Plumpton. This forced us to go for a quick reappearance ahead of that raise taking effect, but he was badly struck into, picking up cuts on three legs. It took the vet a hour to staple them on the course, and they took an age to heal. Even then, when they looked OK, the first attempt to step up his work, saw a bit of a reaction, so we have had to ease off on him a little again.
Apr08: Finally was fit to show what we think he is capable of, finishing second in a novice hurdle at Plumpton. A gallery of his activities on the day is here. MANCEBO GALLERY
Mar08: Has had a nice rest to put his pelvic injuries behind him, but would not go on winter ground, so has not missed golden opportunities as a result. He has had a warm up on the all weather, and the target for a jumps return is Plumpton the day before Cheltenham. He gave us a bit of a nasty scare when throwing Dawn to the ground after bolting off of the end of Mandown's Long all-weather gallop. Dawn was initially out for the count, but by the time help had arrived, she had come round and insisted she was fine. After recounting events several times, it was clear Dawn was not entirely with us, but before anything could be done, she fainted. The air ambulance was called, but Dawn insisted a regular wheeled one would suffice, which was eventually arranged. In all this, the horses chivalrously began to get excited, miffed at not being the centre of attention?

2007: He had not been acting very professionally in his hurdle schooling sessions, so for April Fools Day we sent him off to Newton Abbot to race over them. He learnt a lot more about what is expected of him from the day, but we also gave him a brief break in the aftermath and had him gelded. Unfortunately, in August he picked up a double fracture of the pelvis, so was forced into some time off.

Mancebo, back in Germany, appreciates the compliments of the viewing party as to his hurdling potential but seeks clarification of the rumours that it requires a parting of ways with his nadgers.
He has run five times for champion German flat trainer Andreas Wohler finishing second, third and fourth at distances from 6 furlongs to 1 mile 4 furlongs. He looks an ideal sort to improve and did not start his career until 11th August '06.
He is fit and ready to run in juvenile hurdles subject to schooling him, which should take two or three weeks. The more I look into this horse the more excited I get! I think they have missed a trick with him, and we have nicked a very nice horse! My bid was just two hours before another English trainer put in an offer!
His sire Acambaro was joint 3rd top rated 3yo in Germany, a group 2 winner and second in their Derby. He is also half brother Auetaler! Imported from Germany he won the Swinton hurdle (Listed Race), Agfa Hurdle (Listed Race), Kingwell Hurdle (Listed Race), 2nd Martell Hurdle etc, winning 6 races over hurdles and placed 11 times, he also won 2 chases. Interestingly, Acambaro has never had a 2yo winner, his 3yo strike rate is 18.35%, but his 4yo+ strike rate is 29.1%.
Mancebo's dam Marsixa won 4 races and placed 8 times inc. two listed races, £19,108. She is full sister to Marlix who won 4 on the flat and went on to be a very good hurdler in France, winning 3 times and placed inc Grande Course de Haies de Cagnes (Listed Race). Mancebo is her first foal.
